The Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate & Insolvency Laws (CARCIL), Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), is pleased to announce the 5th CNLU–CARCIL National IBC Moot Court Competition, 2026 (“Competition”).

Building upon the legacy of its previous editions, the Competition seeks to provide law students across the country with a rigorous platform to engage with contemporary issues in Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law, while fostering advocacy, research, and practical legal skills.

About CNLU

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was established in 2006 with the objective of serving society through the dissemination of high-quality legal education and legal awareness. Over the years, CNLU has earned a pan-India reputation as a premier institution for legal research and education.

About the Competition

The inaugural edition of the CNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition, organised in association with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys, received an overwhelming response with participation from 32 teams representing premier law schools across the country.

The second edition, conducted in collaboration with JSA Advocates & Solicitors, further strengthened the Competition’s reputation for academic excellence.

The Justice U.P. Singh Memorial 3rd CNLU-CCI National Moot Court Competition, organised in association with Economic Laws Practice (ELP), continued this legacy.

Subsequently, the Justice U.P. Singh Memorial 4th CARCIL-CNLU National Moot Court Competition on Antitrust Laws, 2025, organised with P&A Law Offices, witnessed enthusiastic participation from returning institutions and benefited from the insights of a distinguished panel of judges.

About the 5th Edition

After four successful editions focusing on antitrust law, the Competition returns with a renewed focus on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws. CARCIL proudly presents the 5th CNLU–CARCIL National IBC Moot Court Competition, 2026.

The Competition shall be conducted in a hybrid format, with the Preliminary and Quarter-Final Rounds conducted virtually on January 17–18, 2026, and the Semi-Final and Final Rounds held physically at the CNLU campus on February 08, 2026.

Theme of This Edition

This year’s moot problem focuses on balancing the commercial wisdom of the Committee of Creditors (CoC) with timeliness and transparency in the resolution plan selection process, while also examining the standard of proof for fraudulent transactions in summary tribunal proceedings.

Event Timeline

  • November 03, 2025: Release of Pre-Invite & Opening of Provisional Registrations
  • November 14, 2025: Last Date of Provisional Registrations
  • November 15, 2025: Release of Moot Proposition & Opening of Final Registrations
  • December 01, 2025: Last Date of Final Registrations
  • December 25, 2025: Last Date for Submission of Memorials
  • January 08, 2026: Release of Results of Memorial Selection Rounds
  • January 17–18, 2026: Virtual Rounds (Preliminary & Quarter-Final Rounds)
  • February 08, 2026: Offline Rounds (Semi-Final & Final Rounds)

Registration Details

There shall be no cap on the number of registrations in this edition of the Competition.

Each institution may send one team under the Institutional Registration category. Additional teams from the same institution may register under the Open Registration category.

Interested teams may provisionally register (no payment required) by filling out the following form:

To complete registration, teams must make a payment of INR 1,500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only) before the last date of registration.

Following the Memorial Elimination Round, 32 teams shall qualify for the Oral Rounds and will be required to make an additional payment of INR 4,500/- (Rupees Four Thousand Five Hundred Only).

Teams advancing to the offline rounds at the CNLU campus shall be required to make an additional nominal payment, details of which shall be notified at a later stage.
